Fire Detection Design Foundation Course for Non-domestic Premises.
This is an intensive one-day course, the latest version of BS 5839-1, which should suit sales engineers and others requiring a basis for further training or with a view to gaining knowledge of fire detection and alarm systems to help in specifying, managing or allocating work to others in, for example, facilities management.
Tests are spread through the day, multiple choice. Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a pass Certificate.

Maintenance of Fire detection & Alarm Systems for Non-domestic Premises
This is an intensive one-day course, to the latest version of BS 5839-1, which should suit maintenance engineers and maintenance managers. Before attending this course, it is advisable to pass Module 1 Foundation course for Fire Alarm System Design, or equivalent.
Tests are spread through the day, mainly multiple choice, but with some calculations. Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a pass Certificate

Day Overview:
Revision of fire alarm system Categories, for a building (i.e. L1 to L5, P1 to P2)
The Law applicable to maintenance of fire alarm equipment and battery backup.
Responsibilities for the Competent Person (CP) engineer, and for the Premises Management at the building.
Training the Premises Management regarding faults, pre-alarms, alarms and the effect of building works on the fire alarm system.
Short Break
Routine inspections and test, for the Premises Management weekly and monthly.
Periodic inspection and servicing by the CP.
Annual inspection and servicing by the CP.
Lunch Break for 30 minutes
Non-routine attention by the CP, including helping to reduce false alarms from automatic fire detection and from malicious activations.

This course normally runs in the afternoon, to follow Module 3, Installation, with mid-afternoon break and finish at approximately 17.00, depending on questions and workings.
Before attending this course, it is essential to pass Module 1 Foundation course for Fire Alarm System Design, or equivalent and Module 3 Installation course.

Detailed Design for Fire Detection & Alarm Systems to BS 5839-1 for Non-domestic Premises.
This is an intensive one-day course, which should suit design engineers, sales engineers, CAD operators and others, requiring detailed training, with the objectives of design to BS 5839-1, at acceptable cost and practicality. Cost savings are such that delegates should be able to recoup the cost of the course when putting into practice that learnt in the course.
*It is also possible to take this module over two days to allow more time and insure understanding
Delegates need to complete Module 1, Foundation fire detection course before proceeding to this detailed course.

BS 5839-6 is a difficult standard to understand at the first or even second reading. This course is intended to explain BS 5839-6 in easily managed parts. Tests are included to consolidate the learning process. Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a pass Certificate.

MODULE 7 - One Day
Fire Detection & Alarm Training. BS 5839-1
Interfacing Fire Detection & Alarm Systems to third party equipment BS 7273-4, BS 7273-6 and BS 5839-1 for Non-domestic Premises.
BS 5839-1 contains a small amount of guidance for interfacing fire alarm systems to third party equipment but refers to the BS 7273 series of standards for more information. BS 7273-4 gives recommendations on how to control doors and also provides guidance on positioning of fire detectors for systems that are not in compliance with L3 or above. BS 7273-6 was published in 2019 and is intended to provide guidance on all the other types of equipment and systems that are not covered elsewhere in the BS 7273 series.
This course is intended to give detailed guidance on what is contained in these three essential standards and to also provide some technical insight into the reasons behind the recommendations and guidance that is provided.
The course is particularly suited to fire alarm designers, installers and commissioning engineers, who work on the larger and more complex fire alarm systems.

MODULE 10 - One day
Emergency Lighting Training
The Code of practice for emergency lighting, BS 5266-1: 2016.
This training course includes the 2016 material and highlights the important clauses, particularly for exit signs, lux levels for defined escape routes and fire resistant cable recommendations for centrally supplied systems.
ONE DAY assessment course for emergency lighting engineers to ensure that they are aware of the Code of practice BS 5266-1: 2016 and of the fire safety legislation.
The course is in sections with a test after each section; delegates achieving 75% or more qualifying for a pass certificate. As a final test, the presenter will also ask the delegates to put into practice some of the course material and to mark up a plan with appropriate emergency lighting and exit signs, in the correct positions at the spacing distances provided.
Sections: Section A: Background and legislation for emergency lighting. Types and technology of emergency lighting including an introduction to LED technology, and modes of operation for emergency lighting.
Section B: Exit signs and illuminance [Lux level] recommendations for defined escape routes and open areas.
Section C: Maintained lighting, special requirements, labelling, recharge times and approval certification for emergency lighting products.
Section D: Design procedures for emergency lighting, covering points of emphasis [changes of direction etc.], integrity for luminaires and spacing tables giving distances between fittings in defined escape routes and open areas.
Section E: High risk task areas, response times and calculation methods. Emergency conversions, allowing for correction factors, and using the spacing tables giving distances between converted fittings in open areas.
Section F: Disability glare, installation wiring and test facilities, testing regime, and service and maintenance for emergency lighting systems.
